Overview
Reporting to the Vice President of Commercial Excellence, the Commercial Excellence Analyst will be responsible for identifying, evaluating and executing on improvement opportunities that will enhance Summit Materials’ continued profitable growth in alignment with the company’s overall corporate strategy, ELEVATE Summit (see March 2021 investor presentation) to create value for our customers, employees, shareholders, and communities where we operate.
The successful candidate will use rigorous quantitative analysis and qualitative insights to support development and deployment of continuous improvement opportunities spanning commercial capabilities, processes, technology, tools, and analytics across lines of business and markets where the company operates driving adoption of the same to reach its full potential and more. S/he will need to partner widely across the enterprise working across levels from senior leadership to deep in the organization to uncover unique insights. S/he will also work closely with corporate functions including, but not limited to, CSBD (Corporate Strategy & Business Development), Commercial Excellence, Operational Excellence, Innovation, HR, ESG, Legal, Finance, etc.
Apart from regular interactions across sales operations, sales planning and sales enablement stakeholders, this role will also require a high degree of collaboration with external service, solution providers that support commercial effectiveness, revenue management and customer experience. Proposed improvement opportunities will need to be based on deep company and/or industry insights and business value aligned to the Company’s core competencies. S/he will regularly present ideas and insights based on internal and external research, analytics to support Commercial Excellence leadership team to drive a culture of commercial excellence across the enterprise.
This role is based at Summit's East Segment HQ in Atlanta, GA and requires travel 10-20% of the time.
Roles & Responsibilities

Facilitate development and coordination of Commercial Excellence roadmap for the enterprise across its multiple business lines including cement, aggregates, ready mix concrete, hot mix asphalt, construction services and other products, service portfolio to achieve Summit’s ELEVATE strategic and financial objectives (market leadership, asset light partnerships, most socially responsible, innovative solutions, >30% EBITDA margin, >10% ROIC & <3x leverage)

Coordinate with cross functional teams across the enterprise as needed to drive successful execution of commercial excellence work plans as well as adhoc projects in support of the Commercial Excellence roadmap. Focus of the coordination will be to support the design, development, deployment, insights and action plan generation, progress tracking and incorporating feedback to drive successful execution. Priority initiatives will include, but not limited to, ensuring pricing excellence to drive margin expansion, incrementally capturing market share without sacrificing profitability, ensuring aligned commercial organization design, commercial processes, policies as well as technology and tools to enable smart selling, reliable decision support system and differentiated sales and customer relationship experience, etc.

Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of commercial performance at multiple levels of granularity to support the hypothesis definition, analysis of value potential, development of actionable insights, validating the same with Subject Matter Experts, present recommendations to senior leadership to advance the culture of commercial excellence across the enterprise. Analysis will likely involve using market intelligence, company information systems, industry sources, and primary research studies, etc.

Facilitate workshops and cadence driven coordination meetings as required to develop and review initiatives, drive alignment, review progress and /or insights to advance the commercial excellence agenda and its execution.

Contribute to the development of enterprise-wide business cases with accompanying investment and return models for specific commercial excellence projects requiring capex/ opex investment.

Work closely with the Corporate Strategy and Business Development team to ensure alignment and understanding of commercial goals at a strategic level and tying them to tactical execution through culture of excellence.

Regularly present value attainment analysis against goals of revenue excellence, commercial effectiveness scorecard and action plan progress supporting the commercial excellence roadmap priorities to department and company leadership.
Qualifications and Experience

A critical thinker passionate about commercial excellence fundamentals. Understanding of sales excellence pillars, leading and lagging commercial performance indicators knowledge.

Ability to analyze structured and unstructured data, conduct internal and external benchmarking, historical performance analysis, and forecasting in relation to revenue and profitability performance at market, segment, customer, job or other dimensions.

Exceptional analytical skills – ability to design and run sales insight programs, apply common analytical frameworks, build commercial models, synthesize quantitative and qualitative information to support value maximization and data driven decisions.

Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple workstreams and support multiple stakeholders to drive timely execution against plan.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to create executive level presentations.

Prior construction materials or manufacturing B2B industry experience will be preferred.

Strong academic track record with 4-year bachelor’s degree; MBA preferred.

Education
Pay range: $90,000 - $110,000
