Compensation: 92,000 to 114,000 (DOE)

Position Overview:

As an assistant production manager, your duties will include assigning materials and equipment to the production department, managing a team of 12 - 16 (direct and indirect) and overseeing quality control and costs. You may be requested to prepare production schedules.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Set objectives, guidelines, procedures, and priorities and define key programs and schedules during day-to-day operations and equipment shutdowns.
  • Establish jobs or tasks necessary to comply with his/her section's objectives and define them complete with instructions, technical specifications, and environmental compliance policies as applicable.
  • Work with external departments for material management to include both Norfolk Southern (NS) and CSX Transportation network.
  • Manage, direct, and coordinate overall activities of the department and interaction with other departments.
  • As an assistant production manager, your duties will include assigning materials and equipment to the production department, managing a team of 12 - 16 (direct and indirect) and overseeing quality control and costs. You will also be responsible for prepare production work schedules for the production team.
  • Promote safety by ensuring tailgate and safety meetings are held daily, developing the proper safety procedures, wearing required safety equipment and following proper working environment and conditions as well as upholding safety policies for Field Risk Assessments (FRA), Workplace Exams (WPE), (MEI) 
  • Participate in defining Production Department objectives and strategies.
  • Manage ongoing efforts to increase production efficiencies 
  • Process hourly payroll in Kronos time keeping system
  • Mentor and coach operators in both technical and supervisory development, utilizing available tools excel, 
  • Establish and maintain communication within the department so there is continuity between different production teams.
  • Knowledgeable of railyard management and raw material management to include phone calls, emails, teams’ meetings etc.

Technical Knowledge and Certifications

 

  • Cement industry experience is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of cement manufacturing process with good troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong and proven leadership skills.
  • The ability to work with cross-functional teams and influence decisions.
  • Knowledge of process, maintenance, production facilities as well as environmental regulations.
  • The ability to work with all levels at the plant as well as with regional management and technical centers.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • The ability to be achievement oriented and tenacious, with a strong work ethic and an impeccable attention to detail.
  • The ability to work well with others of diversified background.
  • The ability to persuade and motivate others.
  • The ability to present ideas and reports clearly, both written and verbal.
  • Organizational skills in order to manage both time and equipment.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.

Frequent exposure to walking on rocky, irregular surfaces that may be muddy and in reduced lighting conditions, moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, high and/or confined spaces, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions and explosives. Occasionally be able to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) lbs. independently and tolerate moderate noise levels.
