The Quarry Supervisor will perform any Quarry Mining function as required and will lead all daily functions of the Quarry mining operations, to meet production and quality requirements in an environmentally sound, safe, and efficient manner. Roberta Quarry mining Supervisors will have specific responsibilities as outlined in the Specific Accountabilities section below. This position supports a good standing in the community, sustainable operations, and adheres to and upholds all company policies, safety standards and federal / state regulations.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Requires good communications skills, computer literacy, and problem-solving abilities.
- Requires ability to interpret technical documentation including mine maps and plans, and technical manuals.
- Requires extensive Quarry mining experience, particularly in multiple bench mines.
- Responsible for all mining activities on a daily basis.
- Responsible for planning and prioritizing based on operational needs and manpower and equipment availability.
- Responsible for conducting training as needed for miners.
- Operate and maintain any piece of equipment as required to maintain Quarry production goals.
- Responsible for maintaining harmonious relationships among all Quarry mine and mobile personnel while leading daily activities.
- Responsible for maintaining safe working conditions in accordance with all regulatory and company requirements.
- Support and participate in the Continuous Improvement Group and Technical Improvement Group, and Quarry Safety and housekeeping team activities.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.
Ability, Skills, and Knowledge
- Schedule and supervise hourly mining personnel, all contractors on Site and coordinate with the other crew Supervisors to perform all mining activities to meet daily production requirements safely and efficiently.
- Keep accurate inventories of and submit requests to order mining supplies, tools as needed to operate the Quarries.
- Work closely with the Quarry Operations Manager to forecast monthly costs and to operate within forecasted costs.
- Ensure that the required MSHA and company inspections are properly conducted and the proper documentation is maintained. These include: Pre-shift inspections on mobile equipment, work place examinations, blast inspections, Hot Work permits, safe work permits, confined space, gas checks, daily production logs, PPW updates.
- Ensure that mine ventilation systems properly control levels of gases, dust, and diesel particulate in the mine atmosphere. Work with Mine Engineer to implement changes in ventilation controls as required.
- Conduct and document safety meetings with Union personnel as required by MSHA and company policies.
- Inspect and report any maintenance requirements and coordinate repairs with the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor. Utilize SAP and Kronos for work order and time keeping.
- Ensure that routine housekeeping and daily maintenance is performed on mobile equipment, sumps, production line equipment and roadways.
- Conduct and properly document job specific cross training as needed to reach an optimal level of competency and proficiency throughout the workforce.
- Work closely with the Quarry Mine Engineer to ensure proper mining sequence and that faces and benches are mined on line and grade according to plans.
- Work closely with the Maintenance department to facilitate repairs and cleanup efforts during down time and maintenance days.
- Actively participate in weekly planning meetings as required and be prepared to discuss plans for the following weeks work schedule and outstanding projects.
- Conduct weekly safety meetings and work to eliminate grievances.
MSHA instructor certification a plus. Minimum 5 years mining experience with at least 3 years’ experience in supervisory capacity preferably in large Quarry mining operations.
Must have good communications skills, computer literacy, and problem-solving abilities.
Must have the ability to develop and deliver training programs and interpret technical documentation including mine maps, plans, and technical manuals.
