Overview

The Plant Manager for the Sand and Gravel Dredging Pit is responsible for overseeing the operations, maintenance, safety, and production activities within the dredging site. This role involves ensuring the efficient extraction of sand and gravel materials, the maintenance of equipment, and the supervision of a team to meet production goals. The Plant Manager will be expected to implement operational strategies that promote safety, productivity, and environmental compliance while managing operational costs.

Compensation: 85,000 to 105,000 depending on experience plus annual bonus potential

Responsibilities & Skills

Responsibilities:

 

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the sand and gravel dredging pit to ensure optimal production levels and efficiency.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate dredging, processing, and materials handling operations.
  • Ensure that all production targets, quality standards, and deadlines are met.
  • Monitor and control production rates and adjust as necessary to meet customer demands.
  • Implement strategies to optimize resource utilization and operational throughput.
  • Manage inventory control of materials and ensure proper storage and distribution.
  • Lead, motivate, and supervise a team of operators, technicians, and laborers.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs for dredging and processing equipment.
  • Ensure the efficient operation of dredgers, crushers, conveyors, screening plants, and other heavy machinery.
  • Oversee repairs, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and procurement of equipment supplies.
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety standards and regulatory compliance (local, state, and federal).
  • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and safety meetings with staff.
  • Ensure the dredging site complies with environmental regulations, including water management and dust control.
  • Investigate any safety incidents or accidents and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor and control the plant’s operating budget, including staffing, maintenance, and materials costs.
  • Work with senior management to develop cost-saving initiatives and improve operational efficiency.
  • Ensure the plant operates within budget and delivers on financial performance goals.
  • Maintain detailed records of production rates, maintenance schedules, safety inspections, and inventory levels.
  • Prepare and submit regular operational reports, performance metrics, and updates to senior management.
  • Assist in the preparation of business plans, forecasts, and project reports as needed.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments, exposed to varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects when necessary.
  • Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Comfortable working in an industrial, potentially noisy, and dusty environment.

 

Skills & Competencies:

 

  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse workforce.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of dredging equipment, crushers, screening plants, and conveyors.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations, environmental compliance, and sustainability practices.
  • Proficient in the use of plant management software, MS Office, and other relevant tools.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
