Terminal Manager

The primary objective of the Terminal Manager is to accurately unload, load and transfer bulk cement products using the plant bulk loading system.  The incumbent is also required to safely operate mobile equipment used in the material handling operations. This position supports a good standing in the community, sustainable operations, and adheres to and upholds all company policies, safety standards and federal / state regulations.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Be safety conscious employee & promotes safety through the actions
  • Direct terminal operating activities.
  • Coordinate the receipt, storage, handling, and shipment of all products.
  • Hire, discipline and train all employees.
  • Direct employees to achieve sales and plan objectives.
  • Maintain terminal property and equipment.
  • Administer safety and training programs.
  • Prepare the terminal cost budget and assist in preparation of the terminal capital budget.
  • Purchase equipment and supplies per authorized levels and direct repair projects.
  • Comply with all company policies and applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate terminal shipping activities with sales office, customers, trucking firms, distribution personnel, suppliers, government officials, and manufacturing locations.


Skills and Abilities

 

  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of products, including uses and limitations.
  • Ability to effectively interface with diverse groups (customers, sales, regional staff, truckers, local authorities, neighbors, etc.).
  • Ability to work with, and effectively manage people.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude to operate and maintain various types of equipment.
  • Must be familiar with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Disciplined self starter.
  • Creative problem solver.
  • Ability to read and understand cost reports and direct terminal activities within budget limitations.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.

 

Education and Experience

 

Two years post-secondary education in business (e.g., distribution, marketing), economics or science, plus three years’ experience in the construction materials industry, or high school plus seven years’ experience in the construction materials industry.

While performing the duties of this position, the teammate will be regularly required to talk and hear, use fingers and hands to handle and/or feel, use eyesight for depth perceptions, close, distant, peripheral and color vision; stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Frequent exposure to walking on rocky, irregular surfaces that may be muddy and in reduced lighting conditions, moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, high and/or confined spaces, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions and explosives. Occasionally be able to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) lbs. independently and tolerate moderate noise levels.
