Responsible for all aspects of the ready mix plant site including safety, environment, operations, sales, maintenance, inventory management, performance, quality, financial performance, employee relations, plant’s image and community relations. The Plant Manager is an operations professional who understands the value of planning and works closely and effectively with safety, environment, sales, credit, and customer service, performance, finance, and Human Resources. Additionally, the plant manager is accountable for the efficient use of financial and physical resources associated with the assigned concrete plant which are required to produce the quality and quantity of Ready Mix concrete for the market and for the generation of budgeted profits.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Manages implementation and compliance of Argos Safety Program to ensure personnel are working in a safe manner in accordance with policies and procedures. Ensures all aspects of his/her role are executed in a safe manner. Ensures employees, equipment and processes meet or exceed the OSHA and Argos guidelines, standards and advisories. Pursues a culture of safety that is best in class with an objective of “zero” injuries or incidents. Actively engages with the employees to reinforce safe behaviors.
- Responsible for batching quality concrete to produce specified concrete mix according to customer requests and design specifications. Ensures ready mix trucks are loaded and ready for delivery as scheduled to meet concrete orders from customers. Communicates with drivers on an accurate and timely basis to ensure delivery of concrete products.
- Directly supervises subordinate staff of drivers, plant operator and yard attendant if any. Responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring and training/coaching employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Monitors incoming materials, payroll, truck scheduling and compiles / publishes periodic production reports. Management of raw materials to ensure a balance between cost optimisation and meeting customer needs.
- Establishes environmental policies and processes as a priority at the site. Recognizes environmental compliance as a priority at the site. Submit daily and monthly EPA reports to ensure plant is operating within the safety guidelines
- Ensures good customer relations, by communicating with customer and/or operation personnel any problems / issues in a timely fashion. Achieve annual revenue target by actively managing customer relations along with sales reps in the designated market. Conduct research and analysis appropriate for the establishment of the annual budget.
- Schedules personnel, equipment, raw materials deliveries, etc. to meet customer requirements
- Ensure plant runs efficiently and is in compliance with various government safety regulations and Argos policies and procedures. Oversee maintenance to avoid breakdown in equipment
- Ensure drivers are compliant with all rules and regulations including CDL requirements, driver logs and assuring drivers are performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections and filling out necessary reports.
- Conducts monthly safety meetings and training with staff
- Shadow drivers and visits job sites to ensure job readiness
- Receive / process invoices to ensure payment through corporate office
- Daily review of time cards and fuel logs to ensure accuracy of information reported
- Investigate accidents and injuries - report submissions and workmen’s compensation
- Complete end of month profit and loss statements for submission to senior management
- Assists Plant staff by answering the telephone, performing customer service duties, documenting company records and proactively resolving employee behavior.
