Overview

The Dispatcher coordinates phone sales and manages the distribution of concrete for multiple plants and vendors. They must be aware of special jobsite conditions that require specific trucks, spacing, and slump requirements. Dispatchers should be familiar with delivery areas, assist drivers in finding jobsites, and determine travel times. The role requires strong customer service skills, the ability to work efficiently under pressure, and flexibility to work long hours when needed.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support a culture that promotes safety as a top priority while ensuring compliance with all federal, state and company regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service by phone and in person.
  • Communicate all pertinent dispatch activities to the appropriate individuals, customers, or drivers.
  • Assign and reassign ready mix drivers for projects and plants.
  • Track orders while monitoring demand, utilization, and capacity; prioritize work accordingly.
  • Monitor driver performance, arrival times, loads per day, and overall customer satisfaction.
  • Provide customer support, respond to inquiries, and offer alternatives as needed.
  • Identify potential problems or opportunities and proactively resolve issues.
  • Diffuse complaints effectively.
  • Collaborate with production staff to exceed customer expectations.
  • Ensure all orders are complete and accurate.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous dispatch or logistics experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the ready-mix concrete business.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Proficient typing and computer skills, including knowledge of database software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).

 

Other Requirements:

  • Flexibility to work various schedules and stay late when necessary.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to airborne particles. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
