Overview
Job Title: Quarry Operator
Location: Newberry, FL Plant
To understand the quarry operation and operate the fixed and mobile equipment to safely produce the required quantity and quality of material for the quarry customers. This position supports a good standing in the community, sustainable operations, and adheres to and upholds all company policies, safety standards and federal / state regulations.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Quarry Operators will be expected to operate all equipment in the quarry (training will be provided)
- Fuel, oil, and grease as specified in preventive maintenance instructions and make required equipment inspections and record keeping
- Operate quarry equipment designated by the foreman and make minor repairs
- Keep equipment clean and orderly, and report unusual operating or unsafe conditions to the supervisor
- Adhere to all proper safety and operational procedures
- Report all unusual conditions at once to the foreman
- Perform various labor functions as assigned
- This list is not all-inclusive, and other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the facility
- Take a personal interest in personal and team safety. Continuously look for ways to improve safety and assist others. You must be dedicated to the safety of yourself and your coworkers.
- Follow all company guidelines and safety standards. Attend safety meetings as scheduled.
- Inspect all operating equipment each shift, complete the inspection sheet, and report problems immediately to the Quarry Coordinator.
- Correct all malfunctions or irregularities of operating equipment and safety hazards or report to the Quarry Coordinator if corrections cannot be made.
- Regular communication with Quarry Coordinator is required to identify or anticipate issues, allowing quick mitigation or prevention of quarry issues.
- Do any necessary cleanup to have a better and safer working environment.
- Qualification required on, including daily safe and proper operation of mobile equipment to include, depending on quarry operational requirements, but not limited to, front-end loaders (992s, 990s, 980s, etc.), haul trucks, dozers, backhoes, grader, excavators, fuel truck, and skid steer loaders. This includes inspection of each piece of mobile equipment. Completion of the inspection sheet is required.
- Taking accurate and reliable counts of material additions as required.
- This job requires shift work, callouts, scheduled and unscheduled overtime, and weekend and holiday work. Employees may have their work schedule adjusted on short notice.
- Perform all tasks assigned by the Quarry Coordinator, Quarry Management, or other Plant management
Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- Must be dependable and have good attendance
- Must be safety conscious and follow all pertinent safety rules and regulations
- Have good eyesight, normal or corrected
- Knowledgeable in mobile equipment operations, troubleshooting, Cement manufacturing equipment, mechanical/electrical ability, able to perform physical labor, good communication abilities, and perform job requirements and essential functions.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, confined space, outside weather conditions, low lighting, artificial lighting, and explosives. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, heat, proximity to electrical equipment, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.
